Last year I came in to Vancouver to attend a professional event taking place during the summer. I made a very late decision to come, and so the hotels were running insane rates with very low availability. To my relief, a former-classmate friend who is now working at Simon Fraser invited me to come stay with him and his family, and so I got to see the campus and his working environment. It was summer break, so a bit hard to draw any conclusions, but it’s definitely distant from Vancouver, quite compact, and very quiet. I didn’t get to spend too much there, but it seemed like a pleasant work environment. More importantly, I got to spend some quality time with the friend and his charming family, very Indian style, with an opportunity to catch up after years out of touch. That’s always fun.
